Special Representative of the Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel, Mr. Leonardo Santos Simão, has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic fuel tanker explosion in Jigawa State. The explosion, which occurred recently, claimed the lives of over 150 people and left many others injured.
In a statement issued yesterday, Mr. Simão extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and conveyed his sympathy to the people and Government of Nigeria. He also wished the injured a speedy recovery.
As Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel, Mr. Simão reaffirmed the UN’s support, standing in solidarity with those affected during this difficult period.
