Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has directed the redeployment of several Commissioners of Police (CPs) across Nigeria to enhance effective policing in key areas.
In a significant shake-up, CP Tunji Disu, who was serving as the Commissioner of Police for Rivers State, has been reassigned to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, while CP Abaniwonda Olufemi has been transferred from Delta State to take over the Rivers State Command.
In a similar move, CP Peter Opara, who had recently been posted to the FCT Command, is now the new Commissioner of Police for Delta State.
These changes are part of a broader redeployment effort that also includes the appointment of new CPs for Lagos, Abia, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom states.
Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Thursday, said that the restructuring was aimed at ensuring the Nigeria Police Force remains efficient and capable of addressing security challenges in the affected states.
He also highlighted that the deployment was approved by the Police Service Commission and involved the appointment of new CPs for Abia, Lagos, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom States.
The newly appointed CPs include CP Danladi Nda for Abia State Command, CP Olanrewaju Ishola Olawale for Lagos State Command, CP Anthonia Adaku Uche-Anya for Ebonyi State Command, and CP Festus Eribo for Akwa Ibom State Command.
The IGP has urged the newly assigned CPs to adopt innovative strategies to tackle security challenges in their respective jurisdictions while ensuring diligence in their duties.
He also encouraged them to align with ongoing police reform efforts aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and growth of the Nigeria Police Force.
