Tribunal Reserves Judgement in Mr. Sylva’s Petition Against Governor Diri, Others

Date:

Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has deferred its ruling on a petition lodged by the Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Timipre Sylva, contesting the declaration of Governor Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the State’s governor.

Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Adekunle Adeleye, disclosed that the judgment will be rendered within the statutory 180-day period allowed by law.

He assured that all involved parties in the petition will be duly notified once the date is scheduled.

Governor Diri, who assumed office in 2020, secured a second term by winning the November 2023 Gubernatorial Election, garnering a total of 175,196 votes while Mr. Sylva pulled 110,108 votes.

However, the Former Minister of State for Petroleum has taken the matter to court to contest the election outcome.
