Tragedy in Calabar: Police Inspector Slumps, Dies After Arsenal’s 3-0 Victory

Date:

A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday evening in Calabar, as Inspector Stephen Enang of the Nigeria Police Force reportedly slumped and died moments after watching Arsenal’s emphatic 3-0 win over Spanish side, Real Madrid.

The late Inspector, a native of Ekori in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, was attached to the Akim Police Division along IBB Way, Calabar.

Eyewitnesses said the passionate Arsenal supporter was in high spirits throughout the match, which he watched at a viewing centre on Abang-Asang Street. According to one of his close friends who witnessed the incident, Enang was visibly excited and cheered each goal passionately.

“He jumped and shouted with joy after every goal. But when the final whistle blew and people began leaving, we noticed he hadn’t moved. That’s when we realized something was wrong,” the friend recounted.

He was found unresponsive in his seat and was rushed to the Police Hospital in Akim, where efforts to revive him failed. He was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.

Described as soft-spoken and football-loving, Inspector Enang’s sudden passing has shocked friends and colleagues alike.

As of the time of this report, attempts to get an official statement from the Cross River State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, went unanswered.
