Tinubu Returns to Abuja After Two-Week Working Visit to Lagos

Date:

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Abuja following a two-week stay in Lagos, where he participated in a range of official activities and celebrated the Eid al-Adha holiday.

The President departed from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport on Monday, June 10, 2025, accompanied by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other top government officials.

Tinubu had been in Lagos since May 27, 2025. During his stay, he attended the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), commissioned key infrastructure projects, and hosted numerous political leaders and dignitaries.

On May 31, the President inaugurated Phase 1, Section 1 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, a 30-kilometre, six-lane stretch of road designed to improve connectivity and economic activity along Nigeria’s coastal corridor.

In another significant event, Tinubu flagged off the reconstruction of the access road to the Lekki Deep Seaport on June 5, in a ceremony attended by prominent members of the business community and government officials.

During the visit, President Tinubu also hosted several high-profile guests, including current and former governors and political figures from across the country.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, amid recent speculation about his relationship with the President, led members of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) to visit Tinubu. Speaking after the meeting, the governor dismissed reports of a rift, describing his bond with the President as “father and son.”

“There is none. There are people Catholic than the Pope; they cry more than the bereaved,” Sanwo-Olu said. “Father and son (affairs) are things that we always ensure that we clear. There is nothing at all. He is my father and my leader, and we are grateful that he has given us the audience to say hello to him today.”

Upon arriving in Abuja, President Tinubu proceeded to attend the inauguration of the newly rehabilitated and refurbished Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to national infrastructure development and modernization.
