Spanish Court Overturns Dani Alves’ Rape Conviction

Date:

A Spanish appeals court has overturned the rape conviction of former Brazil international and ex-Barcelona star Dani Alves, citing “shortcomings” and “inaccuracies” in his trial.

Alves, 41, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison in February last year after being found guilty of raping a young woman in the VIP bathroom of a Barcelona nightclub on December 31, 2022. However, following a review of the case, the court ruled in his favor, leading to the dismissal of the conviction.

The three-time Champions League winner had been released on bail while the appeal process was ongoing.
