The Senate has stepped down the N98.5 billion Federal Capital Territory Supplementary Appropriation Bill, 2024 for lacking fiscal clarity.
The development follows a lead debate by the Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, proposing that the bill be read a second time.
The Leader of the Senate led the debate on the bill regarding the approval of the FCT’s supplementary budget.
In their contributions to the bill, Lawmakers commended the FCT Minister for developments within and around the Federal Capital Territory urging other Ministers to emulate his exemplary accomplishments.
The Lawmakers expressed satisfaction with FCT’s progress in revenue generation but requested a more detailed breakdown of components of the bill, which is a necessary budgetary requirement.
President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, concurred that the bill lacked the essential details required for the Senate to proceed with debate.
A voice vote on the bill was conducted which saw the majority voting against reading the bill for the second time, leading to a minor uproar.
Consequently, the bill was stepped down until a detailed breakdown was provided.
