The Senate on Tuesday paid tribute to the late Senator Ifeanyi Patrick Ubah, representing Anambra South, who passed away on July 27, 2024, in the United Kingdom after a brief illness. He was 52 years old.
The session, presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, began with the adoption of the votes and proceedings from the previous meeting, reflecting somberness as lawmakers mourned their departed colleague.
In a valedictory session, senators extolled the late Senator Ubah, who served as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream). Senate President Akpabio described him as “a fine gentleman,” lauding his dedication to service.
Other senators, including Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Abba Moro, Adams Oshiomhole, Victor Umeh, Ireti Kingibe, and Aminu Tambuwal, delivered heartfelt tributes in honor of Ubah’s contributions to the National Assembly and his constituency.
Vice President Kashim Shettima also commended the late senator’s legacy, expressing deep sympathy for his family.
Dignitaries at the event included the former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige, Mrs. Uloama Akpabio, wife of the Senate President, and spouses of other senators.
A moment of silence was observed in the Senate chambers to honor Senator Ubah’s memory and his impactful service to the nation.
