Senate Approves Extension for Capital Budget Implementation to December

Date:

National Assembly has granted an extension for implementing the capital aspect of the appropriation act, 2023 from 30th June to 31st December 2024 following a request by President Bola Tinubu.

Senate and House of Representatives also passed a Bill for an Act to amend the 2023 Supplementary Appropriation Bill’s implementation until 31st December 2024.

President Tinubu seeks the extension of the two budgets until 31st December to allow for a full implementation of the law.

The Passage followed the emergency plenary convened which was presided over by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, and sponsor of the executive bill led the debate on the bill’s general principles.

Supporting the Passage of the Bill, Lawmakers approved the request as the bills went through the three stages of bill passage on the same day.

In his remark, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio who lauded Senators for their understanding and patriotism, expressed the belief that the implementation would allow the executive to complete all abandoned projects.

Implementation of the 2023 Supplementary Appropriation Bill by implication would run in pari-passu with that of 2024 which stands at N28.78 trillion.
