The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has assured residents of adequate security ahead of the local government elections scheduled for Saturday, August 30, 2025.
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday at the state police command headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, Adepoju disclosed that sufficient manpower had been deployed across the state to guarantee safety during the polls.
He noted that in the build-up to the elections, police operatives had been raiding blackspots and arresting criminal elements to ensure a secure environment.
Adepoju stressed that security for the election would be handled strictly by the police and military, with no involvement of vigilante groups. He added that all security agencies had contributed personnel and established a joint situation room with a hotline for the public to provide information.
The Commissioner further announced a restriction of movement from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day, urging residents to comply with the directive and conduct themselves peacefully before, during, and after the exercise.
