Resident Doctors Begin Indefinite Strike

Date:

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has declared a total and indefinite strike from Wednesday, July 26, 2023, following the federal government’s failure to meet its demands.

The National President of the Association, Dr Innocent Orji, in a release on Tuesday said the indefinite strike was at the expiration of the warning strike and different extended ultimatum by the Association.

According to him, the major demands of the association are immediate payment of the 2023 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), immediate release of the circular on one-for-one replacement, and payment of skipping arrears.

Others are an upward review of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) in line with full salary restoration to the 2014 value of CONMESS and payment of arrears of the consequential adjustment of the minimum wage to omitted doctors.

The Association also demands the reversal of the downgrading of the membership certificate by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
