The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has issued the federal government a seven days ultimatum to revise all perceived anti-policies including the recent increase in fuel pump prices, or be ready to face an indefinite nationwide strike scheduled for August 2.
NLC made the decision at its Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held on Tuesday, July 25, at the Abuja Labour House.
According to the NLC spokesperson, Mr. Ben Upah, who confirmed the strike notice, said the nationwide strike would commence on 2nd August 2023.
“Yes, the nationwide strike will commence on 2 August 2023. We will soon issue a communique to that effect”, he said.
Following the notice, the NLC has directed all its affiliates and state councils to embark on the mobilization of workers and other Nigerians, including civil society groups for a lasting strike and mass protests in the event that the government fails to meet the union’s demands.
