Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend the funeral of Pope Francis, the Kremlin confirmed on Tuesday.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated, “No. The president has no such plans,” when asked whether Putin would be present at the ceremony scheduled for Saturday.
Putin’s international travel has been limited due to an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant issued against him. The warrant alleges the Russian leader was involved in the forced deportation of children during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
No further details were provided regarding Russia’s representation at the funeral.
