The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the dismissal of 19 Senior Police Officers, including 10 Assistant Superintendents, six Deputy Superintendents, two Chief Superintendents, and one Superintendent.
Additionally, 19 other senior officers faced rank reductions, affecting one Assistant Commissioner, one Chief Superintendent, two Superintendents, two Deputy Superintendents, and 13 Assistant Superintendents.
The Commission also imposed sanctions on two Assistant Inspectors General of Police: one received a reprimand for refusing lawful instructions, while the other was issued a letter of warning for negligence.
In a statement issued by the Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the decisions were reached during the final segment of the PSC’s first plenary meeting held in Abuja.
The session, chaired by DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), addressed 110 Pending Disciplinary Matters (PDM), 23 appeals, petitions, and 13 court judgments.
The plenary also reviewed promotion recommendations, which have been conveyed to the Inspector General of Police for implementation.
DIG Argungu emphasized the need for timely resolution of disciplinary matters to allow officers free of wrongdoing to progress in their careers while ensuring that those found culpable face appropriate sanctions.
Several dismissed officers are also slated for prosecution by the Legal Unit of the Nigeria Police Force. Three disciplinary cases were deferred pending further information from the Inspector General of Police.
The PSC Chairman warned officers against involvement in civil disputes, such as land, marital, and rent-related issues, stressing that such cases are within the purview of the courts. He urged the police to prioritize criminal matters and threats to life to enhance public trust in the force.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to upholding discipline and professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.
