Profile: Meet Bashir Ojulari, Nigeria’s New NNPC Chief Executive

President Bola Tinubu has appointed seasoned petroleum engineer Bashir Ojulari as the new Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), following the dismissal of Mele Kyari and board reconstitution.

Career Highlights:

  • Currently serves as Executive VP/COO of Renaissance Africa Energy
  • Recently spearheaded $2.4bn acquisition of Shell’s onshore assets (SPDC)
  • First Nigerian process engineer at Elf Aquitaine (now TotalEnergies)
  • Former MD of Shell Nigeria Exploration (SNEPCO) from 2015
  • 32+ years experience across Nigeria, Europe and Middle East

Educational Background:

  • Mechanical Engineering graduate, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria
  • Fellow, Nigerian Society of Engineers
  • Former Chairman, Society of Petroleum Engineers (Nigeria Council)

Immediate Mandate:
Ojulari takes helm as Tinubu pushes ambitious targets:

  • Increase oil production to 2mbpd by 2027
  • Boost gas output to 8bcf/d by 2027
  • Grow refining capacity to 200kbpd by 2027

The Kwara-born technocrat assumes leadership amid Nigeria’s energy transition plans and ongoing reforms under the Petroleum Industry Act. His appointment takes immediate effect.
