U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed he will attend Sunday’s FIFA Club World Cup final at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, as part of his administration’s broader engagement with international sporting events ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The final will feature Chelsea against either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid, following Chelsea’s 2-0 semifinal victory over Fluminense.
The announcement of Trump’s attendance comes just one day after FIFA confirmed the opening of a new regional office at Trump Tower in New York, signalling deepening ties between the football governing body and the host nation of the expanded Club World Cup.
The United States is hosting the newly reformatted 32-team tournament for the first time and is set to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico. Sunday’s final at the 82,500-capacity MetLife Stadium is also the designated venue for the World Cup final next year.
Trump, who attended this year’s Super Bowl, currently chairs a presidential taskforce overseeing preparations for both the Club World Cup and the 2026 World Cup. His administration has placed a strategic focus on leveraging major international sports events to boost infrastructure, tourism, and diplomatic engagement.
The President’s presence at the final underscores the political significance attached to the tournament, as the U.S. positions itself as a global sports hub.
