President Tinubu Appoints Shamsedeen Ogunjimi as New Accountant General of the Federation

Date:

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation. The appointment, which takes effect from March 7, 2025, follows the retirement of the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin, on the same day.

A statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga revealed that Ogunjimi’s appointment was made after a rigorous and merit-based selection process. The process, conducted by a selection committee, involved Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service and included three stages: a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews.

“The selection process underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting transparency, excellence, and competence in key public service positions,” the statement noted.

Ogunjimi, 57, was first announced as Madehin’s successor in December 2024. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).

President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment and urged him to discharge his duties with integrity, professionalism, and dedication to the service of Nigeria.
