Police, NSCDC Deploy Massive Security Ahead of Buhari’s Burial in Daura

Date:

Thousands of security operatives have been deployed to Daura and other parts of Katsina State as final arrangements are made for the burial of Nigeria’s former president, Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday in London.

The Katsina State Police Command confirmed a full-scale security operation in collaboration with other agencies, led by Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 14, to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free burial ceremony.

Police Commissioner CP Bello Shehu, in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, expressed condolences to the government and people of Katsina State, the late president’s family, and the nation at large. He praised Buhari’s “immense contributions to national development, security, and public service.”

In a related development, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has also deployed 2,807 personnel across strategic locations in the state. Katsina State Commandant, Aminu Datti, disclosed this during a management meeting at the command headquarters.

Commandant General of the NSCDC, Abubakar Audi, also mourned Buhari’s passing and directed immediate security reinforcement across Katsina State.

“We have detailed all relevant departments, units, and special forces to ensure a safe and dignified burial process,” Datti stated.

Key areas covered by the security operation include:

  • Daura town and surrounding communities
  • Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport, Katsina
  • Palaces of the Emirs of Katsina and Daura
  • All 34 local government areas in the state

Both covert and overt operations are underway, with security personnel tasked with protecting public infrastructure and ensuring crowd control throughout the proceedings.

The NSCDC emphasized community engagement, intelligence gathering, and inter-agency collaboration as part of its strategy, urging all deployed operatives to remain professional and vigilant.

President Buhari is scheduled to be laid to rest at 2 p.m. today in his hometown of Daura, in line with Islamic rites.
