Thirteen suspects have been arrested by the Kaduna State Police Command following the fatal stabbing of a naval officer, Lt. Commodore M. Buba, in the Kawo area of Kaduna on Sunday.
According to the police spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, the officer, who was a senior course student at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, was attacked around 5:20 a.m. while attempting to change a flat tyre near the Kawo flyover.
An assailant reportedly approached Lt. Commodore Buba and demanded his mobile phone. When the officer refused and questioned the demand, he was stabbed in the chest with a knife. The attacker was immediately overpowered and killed by a crowd that had gathered at the scene.
The officer was rushed to Manaal Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
In response to the incident, the police launched a raid in the area and arrested 13 suspects. “They were found in possession of knives and other dangerous weapons,” DSP Hassan said.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the involvement of the suspects and to enhance security in the area.
