The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South East has elected a new zonal executive, with Chief Ali Odefa re-elected as Zonal Chairman. The elections took place on Wednesday during the party’s zonal congress held at Michael Okpara Square in Enugu.
Other key officials elected include Hon. James Ugwu as Zonal Secretary, Mrs. Regina Uchebo as Zonal Treasurer, and Hon. Cornelius Okey Ugwu as Zonal Organizing Secretary. Additional elected officials are Madubuike Okoro (Financial Secretary), Engr. Chigozie Igwe (Publicity Secretary), Barr. Dominic Nwankwo (Legal Adviser), and Mrs. Ifeyinwa Arodiogbo (Woman Leader).
Godswill Nwanoruo and Ezeanya Augustine emerged as Zonal Youth Leader and Auditor, respectively. The congress also saw the election of six National Ex-Officio members and five Zonal Ex-Officio members.
Enugu State Governor and South East PDP leader, Dr. Peter Mbah, urged members to view the election as a collective step toward reviving the party’s dominance in the region. He emphasized unity and good governance as critical to the PDP’s resurgence.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Odefa pledged to strengthen party cohesion and position the PDP to effectively challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). “We are committed to rebuilding the PDP and ensuring it remains a formidable force in the South East and beyond,” he said.
The congress was monitored by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ensuring a transparent and credible process.
