PDP Crisis: Don’t Abandon a Ship in Need of Repairs, Saraki Urges Party Loyalists

Date:

Former Senate President Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to remain committed to rebuilding the party rather than walking away amid its internal crisis.

Saraki made the appeal on Wednesday via his official Facebook page following his participation in a PDP Consultative Conference convened by one of the party’s founding fathers, Professor Jerry Gana.

“It was an honour to join the Founding Fathers and stakeholders of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, today at the Consultative Conference,” Saraki wrote.

Reflecting on the PDP’s contributions during its 16-year tenure in power, Saraki highlighted the party’s role in making Nigeria Africa’s largest economy and fostering national unity. He urged members not to let internal strife derail the party’s legacy.

“Let’s not abandon a ship in need of repairs. If you must leave, let it be on ideology—not anger,” he said. “The ultimate goal must be to put Nigeria first and rise above the propaganda designed to divide us as a party.”

The former Senate President praised Professor Gana for organizing what he described as a “family meeting” to chart a path forward for the PDP and reiterated his loyalty to the party.

“The PDP was built on solid foundations. Its founders handed it over to us with trust. God forbid that we become the generation that lets it fall apart,” Saraki stated. “I urge all true patriots of the PDP to agree that for the greater good of Nigeria, leaving is not an option.”
