Nigeria Olympic Committee has assured the nation of its comprehensive preparations aimed at surpassing previous Olympic achievements.
President of the NOC, Mr. Habu Gumel, made this declaration while receiving reports from committees tasked with constitution review and the refurbishment of sports infrastructure, notably at the Amuwo Odofin Olympic Sports Village in Lagos.
Mr. Gumel revealed that 80 Nigerian athletes have already qualified for the upcoming Paris Olympics, with an additional five expected pending their qualification.
He highlighted that athletes based abroad are currently in training, while sports federations such as boxing, weightlifting, wrestling, and canoeing have commenced local training programs.
Emphasizing collaboration with the Ministry of Sports Development, Mr. Gumel underscored their joint efforts to replicate the success of Nigeria’s two gold medals last achieved at the 1996 Atlanta Games.
This commitment, he explained, drives the NOC’s robust preparations for Team Nigeria ahead of the Paris Olympics, scheduled to take place from 26th July to 11th August.
