Nigeria Joins Global Anti-Doping Fight as Tinubu Signs Landmark Bill

Date:

Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, has expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for signing the Anti-Doping Bill into law on behalf of the nation’s sports stakeholders.

Mallam Dikko highlighted that the bill, nearly two decades in the making, underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to aligning Nigeria with global anti-doping standards and advancing sports development.

He also extended his appreciation to the Attorney-General of the Federation and the National Assembly for their collaboration and support in passing the National Anti-Doping Organisation (NADO) Bill, which has now been officially enacted.

The new law domesticates the International Convention Against Doping in Sport and establishes an independent body responsible for enforcing the World Anti-Doping Code and International Standards in Nigeria.

A key provision of the Act is the creation of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre, a milestone that Mallam Dikko described as an exciting development for the country’s sporting landscape.
