NESREA Shuts Down 25 Facilities in Four States Over Environmental Violations

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed 25 facilities across Anambra, Enugu, Bayelsa, and Rivers states for various environmental infractions.

According to a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by Mrs Nwamaka Ejiofor, Assistant Director of Press at NESREA, the affected facilities—spanning multiple industrial sectors—were shut down for failing to comply with key environmental regulations.

Violations cited include:

  • Failure to conduct Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) prior to project commencement
  • Failure to undertake Environmental Audits
  • Absence of functional effluent treatment plants

Among the sealed facilities are:

  • Rugal Pharmaceutical, Emene Industrial Layout, Enugu
  • China Communication Construction Company (CCCC), Owo Yard, Enugu
  • Hardis and Dromedas, Umunya, Anambra
  • Pinnatech Engi Asphalt Plant, Awkuzu, Anambra
  • China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), Obogoro Road, Swali, Yenagoa, Bayelsa
  • Megastar Technical and Construction Company Ltd., Imiringi Road, Yenagoa, Bayelsa
  • Multi Plan Nigeria Ltd., Okuru-Ama, Trans-Amadi Industrial Layout, Port Harcourt, Rivers

Prof. Innocent Barikor, NESREA’s Director-General, urged facility operators to comply with environmental laws, emphasizing that the agency will continue its enforcement efforts to protect the environment and deter violations.

“These enforcement exercises are crucial to safeguarding our environment and public health,” Barikor said.

NESREA has reiterated its commitment to upholding environmental standards and holding defaulting organizations accountable.
