The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has expanded its “Help the Girl Child” initiative to Oguta in Imo State and Yenagoa in Bayelsa State, further strengthening its commitment to girls’ education and empowerment in the region.
The program seeks to educate, inspire, and equip young girls with the knowledge and resources needed to pursue their dreams with confidence and self-worth.
Speaking at the Outa Civic Centre in Imo State, NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to human capital development. Represented by the Director of Education, Health, and Social Services, Dr. George Uzowanne, he announced the distribution of educational materials such as U-lesson tablets, textbooks, exercise books, and desks to support learning.
He further encouraged the students to strive for academic excellence, noting that outstanding scholars could qualify for the NDDC Postgraduate Foreign Scholarship Program, which has transformed the lives of many beneficiaries.
Additionally, Deputy Director of EHSS, Mrs. Chioma Nwakwue, motivated the girls to be proud, brave, and respectful, emphasizing that education remains the key to their future success.
The NDDC Imo State Office Director, Engr. Kelechi Menue, also highlighted the empowering impact of the initiative, stating that it creates awareness and opportunities for young girls to take their rightful place in society.
Beyond education, the NDDC extended its support to the Oguta community, donating relief materials, including foodstuffs, to the palace of the paramount ruler, Eze Nnani Nzeribe.
These efforts reflect the NDDC’s continued commitment to promoting education, empowerment, and community development in the Niger Delta region.
