During the next summer league, the NBA said on Tuesday that it will try an in-game punishment for flopping.
A free throw and control of the ball are the consequences for a flop or dive intended to seem like a foul.
Although the NBA’s board of governors will vote on any rule changes for the upcoming season later this month, the new penalty will be in force for the summer league games.
The penalty will be given at the following natural break in play rather than requiring officials to halt play.
The NBA tried to cut down on flops in 2012 by implementing a warning-then-fine system, but it hasn’t been applied that often.
