NATIONAL SPORTS COMMISSION DG COMMENDS MEN’S CRICKET TEAM FOR T20 WORLD CUP QUALIFIER VICTORY

Director General of the National Sports Commission, Honourable Bukola Olopade, has praised Nigeria’s men’s cricket team for their remarkable victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Africa Qualifier C.

The team triumphed over Botswana in a thrilling top-of-the-table clash on Thursday.

Honourable Olopade, who was present at the event to support the team, also commended the Nigeria Cricket Federation and its president, Uyi Akpata, for their transformative efforts in promoting and advancing the sport of cricket in Nigeria.

He emphasized that the strides made by the Cricket Federation, in collaboration with other stakeholders, align with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of involving the private sector to drive sports development in the country.

Honourable Olopade highlighted the rapid progress cricket has made in Nigeria, citing the recent achievement of the Nigeria Under-19 women’s cricket team, which secured Africa’s sole ticket to the ICC Under-19 Women’s World Cup, scheduled to be held in Malaysia in 2025.
