The National Assembly has begun debate on the general principles of the N27.5 trillion Budget presented by President Bola Tinubu.
At the Senate, the Senate Leader, Bamidele Opeyemi, described the N9.9trillion Recurrent Expenditure as too high as it constitutes 43 percent of the Budget
He said total fiscal operations of the federal government would result in a N9.8 trillion deficit, representing 3.88 percent of estimated GDP.
At the House of Representatives, Majority Leader, Julius Ihonvbere, said the ‘Budget of Renewed Hope’ had been crafted to address insecurity and strengthen the economy, among other concerns.
The debate is to continue at the next plenary session on Tuesday.
