Nasarawa NLC Prioritizes Civil Service Promotions Over Immediate Implementation of New Minimum Wage

Date:

The Nasarawa State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has prioritized implementing promotions in the civil service over payment of the new national minimum wage in the state.

The State Chairman, Comrade Ayuba Ismaila Okoh disclosed that the new wage can follow the Federal Government’s template for implementation.

Comrade Okoh stated that they are not in a hurry to receive the new minimum wage as their priority is the implementation of promotions.

In response, Governor Abdullahi A. Sule remarked that he is committed to starting the payment of the new national minimum wage in August, as he previously promised.

He also assured that the three months of arrears and the promotions from 2019 to date will be addressed, with implementation beginning in July.

The governor reiterated his readiness to begin payments as soon as the federal government releases the template, promising to improve the lives of the state’s workers by fulfilling the government’s commitments.
