The National Agency for the Control of Aids (NACA) has collaborated with the National Assembly, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), and JHPIEGO to ensure continued progress in HIV response beyond 2030.

Director General of NACA, Dr. Temitope Ilori, affirmed the Agency’s commitment to leading an accelerated decline in new HIV infections in Nigeria, emphasizing the need for an integrated approach to foster synergy and maximize health benefits.

Dr. Ilori advocated for collaboration during a two-day retreat in Lagos, where he was joined by Dr. Leo Zekeng, Country Director of UNAIDS, who urged the House of Representatives to enhance legislative efforts and resource allocation for HIV/AIDS Management.

Chairman of the House Committee on Aids, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, Hon. Godwin Amobi, stressed the necessity for addressing gender and human rights barriers, alongside increased domestic financing for Nigeria’s HIV/AIDS response.

He encouraged robust engagement between NACA and the Legislature to ensure the right strategies are implemented, proposing that one percent of the consolidated National funds be allocated to HIV/AIDS management.

Hon. Amobi emphasized transparency and accountability in utilizing funds to achieve President Tinubu’s administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
