Nigeria’s Military High Command has firmly refuted claims that bandits seized two Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles from troops during operations in Zamfara State.
In a statement, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, clarified that the MRAPs were demobilized by the troops due to the vehicles being trapped in a swampy area. He explained that the vehicles became bogged down during a fighting patrol in Zurmi Local Government Area on August 29th, a situation caused by persistent rainfall in the region.
Major General Buba dismissed the bandits’ claims as an attempt to mislead the public, noting that the decision to demobilize the MRAPs was made to ensure they could not be used by the terrorists.
The Defence Headquarters also addressed a viral video claiming to show the mass killing of civilians in Sokoto State, clarifying that the incident did not occur in Nigeria but in a nearby African country dealing with terrorism.
The military urged the public to remain vigilant against misinformation and fake news, emphasizing that such propaganda is a tactic used by terrorists as part of their broader agenda.
