Defending champions Manchester City have been eliminated from the FIFA Club World Cup following a dramatic 4–3 extra-time loss to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal in the Round of 16.
Despite cruising through the group stage unbeaten, Pep Guardiola’s side were undone by a disjointed defensive display in Orlando, allowing Al-Hilal to capitalise in a thrilling seven-goal spectacle.
Brazilian forward Marcos Leonardo proved to be the hero for Al-Hilal, netting the winning goal in the 112th minute — his second of the night — to seal a famous victory and send the Saudi club into the quarter-finals.
Al-Hilal will now face Brazilian outfit Fluminense, who earlier stunned Inter Milan with a commanding 2–0 win.
