Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo has strongly condemned what he described as the “unacceptable and reprehensible” behaviour of Fuji music icon, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, for allegedly blocking a taxiing aircraft at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, involved Ayinde obstructing a ValueJet aircraft preparing for takeoff. In response, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on Thursday blacklisted the singer for six months, citing serious safety concerns.
“The decision underscores the zero-tolerance policy of both FAAN and NCAA towards any acts of aggression, non-compliance or disruption within the aviation environment,” said the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Keyamo further stated that any airline, domestic or international, that defies the directive and allows Ayinde to board its aircraft risks having its operating license withdrawn.
“Contrary to what the agents of Kwam 1 have said, he constantly moved his position on the tarmac to actually block the aircraft from taxiing to take position on the runway for take-off. This is totally unacceptable behaviour,” Keyamo posted on X.
He added that the issue is no longer whether the flask Ayinde carried contained alcohol or not, but rather the obstruction itself, which he likened to a “hostage situation.”
This sanction follows Keyamo’s earlier directive placing Ayinde on a no-fly list, pending full investigation into the matter. The minister emphasized that no one is above the law.
Earlier, the NCAA had also suspended two ValueJet pilots involved in the same incident for unsafe conduct.
FAAN noted that the confrontation began when Ayinde was denied boarding for carrying a flask with alcoholic content, which he allegedly spilled on an aviation staffer during a fit of rage.
