Kogi PDP Suspends Dino Melaye for Alleged Anti-Party Activities

Date:

The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended former Senator and Governorship Candidate, Dino Melaye over alleged anti-party activities.

The suspension, which was carried out by the PDP executive committee in Ayetoro Gbede Ward 1, follows Melaye’s refusal to respond to a summons for a disciplinary hearing.

In a memo dated September 12, 2024, the ward committee stated that Melaye had been summoned in August to address accusations of misconduct but failed to appear. The committee condemned his absence as a show of gross disrespect for the party’s leadership and rules.

The memo stated, “After careful consideration and deliberation, the Ward Party Exco resolved that Senator Dino Melaye’s failure to appear before the disciplinary committee constitutes a gross disrespect to the party and its leadership. His actions are in clear violation of the PDP Constitution and principles of party discipline.”

The suspension is reportedly in accordance with Article 59(1) of the PDP Constitution, which empowers the ward executive committee to take disciplinary action against members who contravene party rules. The memo also noted that Melaye’s conduct had brought “embarrassment and disrepute” to the party.

The suspension takes effect immediately, according to the statement issued by the ward party executives.
