Kano Governor Launches Tree Planting Campaign, Distributes 5 Million Seedlings Across 44 LGAs

Date:

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has launched a statewide tree planting campaign with the distribution of five million seedlings across the state’s 44 local government areas. The initiative was flagged off at the Yanbawa Community Shelter Belt in Makoda LGA.

Speaking at the launch, Governor Yusuf stressed the urgent need for environmental conservation, describing the campaign as a vital step toward reversing years of ecological degradation in the state.

He called on traditional rulers, community leaders, schools, and religious institutions to actively support the initiative by nurturing the trees and raising awareness about their importance.

The governor also announced that the State Ministry of Environment will be responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of the trees, in collaboration with local councils and environmental stakeholders.

Beyond the tree planting drive, Governor Yusuf said the state government will introduce more eco-friendly policies and promote climate-smart agriculture to enhance Kano’s resilience to the effects of climate change.
