IGP Insists No Imminent Threat in Abuja

Date:

Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector General of Police, emphasised on Thursday that there is no security concern in Abuja, the capital of the country.

On Sunday, the Federal Capital Territory of the country, Abuja, received alerts from both the US and the UK on a potential terrorist assault.

The warnings stated that the attack would specifically target government structures, houses of worship, educational institutions, and other locations where sizable groups gather.

However, the IGP assured Nigerians and other foreign nationals of their safety in the nation in a statement by force spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

The police chief stressed this while ordering all Strategic Police Managers in charge of Commands and tactical formations around the nation to step up security in their respective domains, particularly in the FCT.

He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police’s dedication to protecting people and property, saying that the force will carry out its mission in cooperation with other security organisations.

“The IGP, therefore, allays the fears of residents in the FCT and admonishes them to go about their lawful businesses and normal social lives/engagements as all hands are on deck to nip any security threat in the bud and respond to distress calls promptly,” the statement said.

“The IGP similarly reiterates the commitment of the Nigeria Police to eliminating all threats, as well as the protection of lives and property of all residents of the country.”

Similar to this, Baba ordered that all emergency phones across the nation be fully operational for a 24/7 rapid response with combatant officers and men on standby to respond in the event of emergencies and distress calls.

He urged people in the FCT to be on the lookout and call the police right away if they see anything unusual or suspicious.

Additionally, the police chief urged members of the public to contact the force via the following emergency lines: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883.
