The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered an immediate large-scale security intervention in Plateau State following coordinated attacks that left over 50 persons dead and 300 houses razed across five communities. The violence, attributed to suspected herdsmen, has displaced hundreds in Bokkos Local Government Area and surrounding villages since March 28.
Security Response:
- Deputy Inspector-General Kwazhi Dali Yakubu (Operations) to lead reinforced tactical teams
- Deployment includes:
- Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) and Police Mobile Force units
- Surveillance drones and helicopters for aerial monitoring
- Special Intervention Squad (SIS) combat platoons
- Operations focused on reclaiming 64 communities reportedly occupied by armed groups
Governor’s Account:
Governor Caleb Muftwang revealed that the attacked communities had previously survived 2023 assaults, with Ruwi village alone losing 17 residents last year. “They rebuilt themselves, showing remarkable resilience before this new wave of violence,” he stated.
The police high command emphasized its commitment to restoring order and apprehending perpetrators, with Force PRO Olumuyiwa Adejobi affirming, “These deployments underscore our resolve to ensure safety and deliver justice.”
