The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has praised the impressive performance of the Police Athletes who represented Nigeria in the just concluded 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana
Their outstanding accomplishments in a variety of sports, according to the IGP, have made the Force and the nation as a whole extremely proud
Welcoming the athletes, the IGP—represented by CP Patrick A. Atayero, the Force Director of Sports (FSO)—compared the African Games to a continental Olympics and emphasized the importance of young, gifted police sportsmen and women exhibiting their abilities, enthusiasm, bravery, and determination on such a prominent platform to win medals.
He stressed that the performance of Police Athletes at the 13th African Games, which took place from March 8–26, 2024, just after the 14th Biennial Police Games (Oluyole 2024), which came to an end on March 2 in Ibadan, is a clear indication of the success of the Force’s sports development initiatives.
The medalists, including, Inspr. Aisha Adamu, Sgt. Mohammed Inuwa, Sgt. Emmanuel Bala, Sgt. Matthew Deshi, Corporal Chika Blessing, Corporal Nathaniel Samson, Corporal Victor Ikechukwu, Corporal Eweh Emmanuel, Corporal Collins Obi, Corporal Godwin Sunday, Corporal Emmanuel Ochayi, Corporal Aminu Garba, PC Olayiwola Zainab, PC Mabel David, PC Precious Joel, PC Esther Peter, and Bello Tunde Muiz (Education Officer II), all demonstrated remarkable skill in Athletics, Badminton, Arm wrestling, Swimming, Mixed Martial Arts, and Hockey.
The police athletes won a total of eight medals for Nigeria (1 Gold, 2 Silver, and 5 Bronze). The Inspector General of Police expressed gratitude to all Police Athletes for their devotion, diligence, and support of national cohesion, excellence in sports, and advancement across all domains in Nigeria.
He emphasised that other police officers, aspiring athletes, and others with untapped potential around the country are inspired by their combined achievements.
