Governor Umo Eno Reiterates Commitment to Checkmate Environmental Degradation

Akwa Ibom Governor, Pastor Umoh Eno has said that robust sensitization programs and standard weather predictions by relevant agencies, are steps towards the protection of citizenry from all forms of disaster in the state.

Pastor Eno, who stated this at Government House Uyo, during the flag-off event by National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) and Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency described weather forecasts as critical to saving lives and reiterated his administration’s commitment to continuous collaboration.

The governor described the synergy between the three agencies as a welcome development and promised to work assiduously with them towards the mitigation of natural disasters in the state.

ADBN Government House Correspondent, Emmamuel Silas reports that the Director General of NEMA,  Mustapha Habib Ahmed explained that more than Two Million people were affected by flood with Six Hundred and Sixty-Five deaths,  Three Hundred and Fifty-Five Thousand, Nine Hundred and Eighty-Six Houses destroyed and Nine Hundred and Ninety-Four Thousand, Nine Hundred and Eighty-Nine hectares of farmland destroyed in 2022.
