Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has announced that Local Government Councils are now financially stable, with sufficient funds to pay salaries ahead of federal allocations. Speaking at the APC stakeholders’ meeting in Lafia, he advised aspirants to recognize that only one person can be elected chairman per Local Government and urged them to exercise caution.
The Governor further revealed that the party has decided to adopt consensus candidates for the forthcoming local government council elections, a move aimed at maintaining party unity.
In separate remarks, former Governors Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Tanko Almakura underscored the significance of the election, describing it as the groundwork for the 2027 elections. They called for seriousness and commitment in the process.
APC National Legal Adviser, Prof. Abdulkarim Kana, highlighted that the adoption of consensus candidates aligns with the party’s tradition and Constitution. Minister of State for Police Affairs, Imaan Suleiman, emphasized that success is not only about winning seats but also about supporting the electoral process. She also commended Governor Sule for considering gender balance in the elections.
Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Honourable Danladi Jatau, described the election as a crucial test and urged that party interests should take precedence over personal ambitions. APC State Chairman, Aliyu Bello, said the stakeholders’ meeting focused on strategizing for the upcoming local government elections within the limited timeframe available.
