Governor Fubara Urges Rivers People to Brace for Challenges Ahead, Vows to Prioritize State’s Interests

Date:

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on the people of the state to prepare for the challenges ahead, urging them to take control of their destiny. Speaking on Monday during the inauguration of the reconstructed State Government House Staff Quarters in Port Harcourt, Fubara assured residents that his administration remains committed to prioritizing the interests of Rivers State, despite ongoing political tensions.

The governor’s remarks come amid a standoff with the Rivers State Assembly, which has issued a 48-hour ultimatum for Fubara to re-present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the legislature, presided over by Speaker Martin Amaewhule. Fubara, however, remained resolute, declaring that the course of governance is irreversible and that victory for the state is assured.

Reflecting on the recent Supreme Court judgment, which he said dampened the spirits of many Rivers people, Fubara encouraged citizens to remain steadfast. “Our back is not on anybody; it is on God,” he stated. “I want to thank you for your support and assure you that, if there is one person on this planet Earth who will continue to stand by you, I will be that person.”

Fubara emphasized his commitment to leading with honor, respect, and integrity, vowing not to disappoint the people of Rivers State. “No matter how much we’ve been fooled in this state, it has gotten to a point where the people must decide to take their destinies into their own hands,” he declared.

While reiterating his aversion to violence, Fubara warned that his administration would not tolerate attempts to destabilize the state. “In as much as I don’t subscribe to violence, when the time comes for us to take a decision, I will lead the course for that decision,” he said. “I am not scared of anything. The worst that will happen is for me to leave the office. Am I leaving the earth? Is it going to stop me from existing?”

Fubara stressed that his strength lies in God and the support of Rivers people who are committed to the state’s progress and peace. “There is honor and glory in fighting gallantly on the side of truth,” he said. “Being on the side of truth, not on the side of lies, because of cheap favor.”

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, has demanded the re-presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill within 48 hours. In a letter addressed to the governor and copied to key state officials, Amaewhule cited the Supreme Court’s recent judgments as the basis for the ultimatum. The speaker noted that the absence of an appropriation law has created a financial quagmire in the state and urged swift action to address the issue.

The Assembly also announced a 12-week recess beginning March 7, during which standing committees will continue their statutory functions.

Governor Fubara concluded his address by reaffirming his dedication to the state’s progress, stating, “I want it to be on record and known to everyone that the interest of Rivers State remains my top priority. I will not hesitate to pay the supreme price, if need be.”
