Derrick Rose, the youngest MVP in NBA history, has announced his retirement after 16 seasons in the league.
The 35-year-old shared his decision on social media and placed ads in six local newspapers in the cities where he played.
The Chicago Bulls chose Rose as the first overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft after his time at Memphis. He quickly became a superstar, making his first of three consecutive All-Star appearances in 2010 and winning MVP honors in 2011 at just 22 years old, leading Chicago to an impressive 62-20 record—the best in the NBA that season.
Rose featured for the Chicago Bulls for eight seasons, before playing for the New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons and, last season, and the Memphis Grizzlies.
Over his career, Rose averaged 17.4 points and 5.2 assists in 723 regular-season games.
