LONDON, 4 July 2025 — Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been formally charged with multiple sexual offences, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Police.
The 32-year-old Ghanaian international is facing five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, involving three separate women. The alleged incidents reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2022.
Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 5 August 2025.
The footballer, who joined Arsenal in 2020 from Atlético Madrid for £45 million, had remained with the club until his contract expired earlier this week. He made 52 appearances across all competitions last season.
According to police, two of the rape charges relate to one woman, three to a second woman, and the sexual assault charge involves a third woman. The Metropolitan Police noted the investigation began in February 2022, following a report of rape.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, emphasized the force’s focus on the wellbeing of those involved:
“Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward.”
Partey was initially arrested in July 2022, though his identity was not disclosed at the time, and he continued to play for Arsenal during the ongoing investigation.
The Met Police are encouraging anyone with relevant information or affected by the case to come forward and contact authorities.
