The Federal Government has been urged to introduce an Electronic Filing System across Nigeria’s judicial system to improve documentation, ensure timely access to court records, and restore public confidence in the nation’s legal process.
The call was made by Barrister Victor Iyanam, a former Attorney General of Akwa Ibom State, during an exclusive interview with ADBN, where he addressed lingering challenges facing the Nigerian judiciary.
Barr. Iyanam noted that political interference continues to delay case judgments, weakening the integrity of the judiciary and eroding trust among citizens.
“Political influence is a major factor contributing to judicial delays, and it directly undermines public confidence in the legal system,” he stated.
He further identified institutional corruption as a significant obstacle to the delivery of justice in the country, calling for urgent reforms to promote transparency and accountability in the judiciary.
Speaking on the Court of Appeal, the former Attorney General acknowledged the existence of over 20 appellate divisions across Nigeria but stressed the need for more judicial appointments to enhance the credibility and capacity of the court.
Barr. Iyanam maintained that a nationwide shift to electronic case management and filing would not only reduce delays but also ensure greater access to justice for Nigerians across all regions.
