President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to remain focused on his developmental mandate and not be distracted by critics or detractors.
The President gave this charge on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, during the inauguration of the rehabilitated and refurbished Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, previously known as the International Conference Centre.
Commending Wike’s efforts, Tinubu described the minister as a transformational leader whose work is aligned with the administration’s broader agenda for national renewal.
“I am glad, Nyesom Wike, you are reflecting that. Don’t pay attention to busybodies and the bystanders, and whatever they say. Continue with your good work. You are a transformational leader. You have the vision, foresight and determination to succeed,” the President said.
The President noted that the revamped facility is part of the federal government’s commitment to change the narrative around public infrastructure and governance.
“The refurbished international conference centre is part of our determined efforts to change the way we do things, to reflect us as people of quality, people of character, people of determination, people of great spirits, that’s what we are,” Tinubu said.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to infrastructure as a foundation for economic growth and national development.
“Through the Renewed Hope Agenda, we are determined to renew the infrastructural and other key sectors of this country — including transportation, healthcare, education, energy and urban development — because we understand that modern infrastructure is the backbone of a thriving economy in an inclusive and progressive society,” he stated.
President Tinubu also highlighted the importance of the conference centre as a hub for regional and international engagement.
The event was attended by top government officials including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Finance and Economy Wale Edun, Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, and other dignitaries.
