Flying Eagles Defeat Côte d’Ivoire 2-0 in International Friendly

Date:

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles secured a 2-0 victory over the Young Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire in the first of two international friendly matches on Thursday at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan.

The match saw captain Daniel Bameyi open the scoring from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute, converting calmly after a foul on Divine Oliseh, who was making a dynamic run into the box.

From the opening whistle, the seven-time African champions dominated the game, with the Ivorian side fortunate to go into halftime with the score still level. In the second half, the Flying Eagles, two-time FIFA World Cup silver medalists, pressed for a second goal, and Oliseh delivered 10 minutes before the final whistle to seal the win.

Both teams will face off again at the same venue on Friday as part of their preparations for the upcoming Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place from April 26 to May 18, 2025.
