Electricity Tariff Hike: NERC Sets New Rate At N225/KWh

Date:

Organised Labour and Manufacturing Sectors have kicked against the 300 percent hike in electricity tariff. They warned that the new tariff would send manufacturers out of business and worsen inflation.

The increase in tariff was announced on Wednesday by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). The Commission set the new rate at N225 kilowatt per hour.

Vice Chairman of NERC, Dr. Musiliu Oseni during a news briefing at NERC headquarters in Abuja explained that the hike would impact approximately 15% of consumers, specifically those categorized under band A, who enjoy over 20 hours of electricity supply daily.

This adjustment marks a more than threefold increase from the previous rates.
