Ekiti Governor Dissolves Cabinet, Retains Attorney General and Key Officials

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has dissolved the State Executive Council with immediate effect, ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election.

In a statement late Sunday, Secretary to the State Government Habibat Adubiaro announced that all commissioners and special advisers are to hand over to permanent secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies.

Adubiaro stated that the dissolution does not affect the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, as well as the Commissioners for Health and Human Services; Agriculture and Food Security; Education; Works; and Trade, Investment, Industry and Cooperatives. The Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion and the Special Adviser on Lands, Survey and e-GIS will also retain their positions.

Additionally, Directors General who are members of the State Executive Council will remain in office. These include the Director General of the Office of Transformation and Service Delivery (OTSD), the Director General of SDGs and Project Monitoring, and the Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).

Governor Oyebanji, who assumed office on October 16, 2022, is seeking re-election under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2026.
