The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over recovered assets worth over $120,000 and more than ₦70 million, along with real estate and vehicles, to representatives of the United States, Spain, and Sweden. The handover ceremony, held in Abuja, is part of efforts to strengthen international partnerships in the fight against financial crimes.
EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, explained that the recovered assets, including real estate, vehicles, and large sums of money, will be returned to their rightful owners. He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to global cooperation in combating financial crimes and ensuring that stolen assets are recovered and returned.
The recovered properties were handed over to diplomatic representatives, including the Acting Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria, Maria Higan Velacco; FBI Legal Attaché, Charles Smith; and Senior Political Officer and First Secretary, Florentino Geel. The officials praised the EFCC for its efforts in tackling financial crimes and upholding international partnerships.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Dunoma Umar Ahmed, noted that the initiative would boost global trust in Nigeria’s financial system.
As the EFCC continues to intensify its fight against financial crimes, stakeholders believe that initiatives like this will further strengthen international ties and serve as a deterrent to illicit financial activities.
