Delta Police Warn POS Operators Against High-Value Transactions, Citing Kidnapping Risks

Date:

The Delta State Police Command has issued a stern warning to Point of Sale (POS) operators about conducting transactions exceeding ₦500,000, cautioning that such actions could implicate them in criminal activities, particularly kidnappings.

In a recent statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, shared an alarming example where a POS operator received a ₦4 million ransom from kidnappers, earning only ₦40,000 in profit.

“Don’t be a tool for kidnappers to collect ransom. Such transactions will be traced back to you,” Edafe warned.

Edafe’s message, shared via social media, urged POS operators to be vigilant and follow federal regulations that limit transaction amounts to prevent criminal exploitation. Operators are advised to report any suspicious activity and strictly adhere to the rules to avoid facing legal consequences.

“Be wise. You may think you’re just doing business, but before your lawyer gets you out, you might spend time in prison,” Edafe added.

The police’s warning underscores the critical role POS operators play in preventing crime and highlights the serious repercussions of non-compliance with transaction regulations.
